A marvelous piece of contemporary literature -- David Mitchell packs all 509 pages of this novel with intriguing storylines, life-changing philosophies, and alluringly cinematic prose. I fell in love with these characters over and over (across time and space, as the story would make us believe) and looked forward to every minute spent in this book.

It's hard to summarize Cloud Atlas simply... it's a story of soulmates, of time, and of humanity. Rest assured, plenty of quotable lines and touching scenes will stick with you long after reading. This novel also stands out in its innovative structure; it is a "nested" book where there are six independent but related stories that weave together to create an ideological magnum opus. I can't recommend this book enough (and the film is worth watching as well).
